Voltage Control of a Permanent Magnet Gener Voltage Control of a Permanent Magnet Generator
The use of permanent magnets for the excitation of small generators brings benefits in terms of reduced weight, size and cost, particularly where the new rare-earth materials are employed. Unfortunately,  thre use of permanent-magnet excitation precludes excitation control. Consequently, as load is applied, the output voltage falls. The load must be fed via some form of electronic power conditioning if its upply voltage is to be maintained constant.
